Case Study : Sheffield Teaching Hospitals

Pixelwave Creative works sensitively and unobtrusively with our healthcare clients to produce effective communication videos for staff engagement and training, public information and promoting services and initiatives.

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is one of the largest NHS trusts in the UK, with more than 7,000 midwifery and nursing staff.

It offers a full range of local hospital and community health services for people in Sheffield as well as specialist hospital services to patients from further afield in our many specialist centres.

The Trust’s corporate strategy is ‘Making a Difference’ – touching lives at times of basic human need, when care and compassion is what matters most to people.

Recruiting nurses can be tremendously challenging for all NHS organisations so we teamed up with the Sheffield Trust to highlight how special it is and why it is particularly appealing for nurses either starting their NHS career, those wanting to return to practice or nurses looking to make their next career move and progress their skills.

We produced two recruitment films for the Trust.

The first film we produced made its debut at the Sheffield Teaching Hospital’s Nursing Open Day on 2 March 2019 at both the Northern General and Royal Hallamshire hospital sites.

In keeping with the key theme of ‘Making a Difference’, the film features nurses throughout the Trust, including community nurses, student nurses, newly qualified nurses and those that have worked at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals for many years, all sharing their positive experiences.

The second film – called ‘Welcome to Sheffield’ – would be used in a nursing recruitment drive in India, promoting Sheffield as a great place to live and work.

We were able to deliver value to the Trust by repurposing some of the content from the first film together with fresh content, including specific interviews with nurses from India who moved to Britain to work for the Trust. Furthermore, through onscreen graphics, we helped communicate how the Trust can help nurses during their move from India to Sheffield.

Location is understandably an important factor to consider when considering moving to a new country, so we shot additional content around key areas in Sheffield and nearby, including Meadowhall, the Peak District and the City Centre.

The Pixelwave Creative team is proud of its work with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and delighted to see in its Chief Executive’s Briefing in October 2019 that a ‘cohort of 36 nurses was recruited from India’ in 2019 with a further 14 nurses recruited before the end of March 2020 (50 nurses in total).
