Case Study : Sheffield Teaching Hospitals

Background

The Thank You Awards recognise and celebrate the dedication and achievements of individuals and teams who work at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Winners of the Awards, across nine categories, are recognised for their work above and beyond the call of duty, highlighting excellent examples of team working, commitment, dedication, leadership and innovation. The Trust’s 2018 Awards were held in October at Sheffield’s City Hall.

How we worked with Sheffield Hospital Teaching Hospitals

We spent two days filming at Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital and Royal Hallamshire Hospital capturing footage of shortlisted nominees going about their day-to-day duties and filming activities relevant to their nomination.

Due to the sensitivity of filming in a hospital environment, visiting different departments and encountering a number of healthcare professionals and patients, we needed to work to a strict timescale while treating everyone with respect.

The project required two films crews for two days filming. The first crew utilised our portable studio setup, which includes a backdrop and lighting, to film nominators speaking to camera on who they had nominated and why.

Our second mobile crew visited shortlisted nominees around the hospital, capturing footage of nominees at work.

We also filmed out in the community with a number of staff from the Community Nursing team. This involved filming at the team’s base at the Firth Park Clinic in Sheffield and following a community nurse on one of her visits to a patient’s home.

At Pixelwave Creative, we recognise how daunting it can be for people who are unfamiliar with speaking on camera to be filmed. So, we took the time to reassure the nominators being filmed and created a filming environment that put them at ease – allowing their authenticity to come through.

By helping the nominator feel relaxed, we were able to coach them on how to deliver their narrative to camera – resulting in fantastic testimonials.

From the film footage we produced nine category videos, including three shortlisted nominees per video. We also produced an Awards welcome music video with a montage of footage filmed over the two days.
