We’re passionate about supporting our local community and helping to develop Bury’s next generation of talent, so couldn’t wait to take part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) this summer.
NCS is a government-funded initiative that supports community engagement, social action and social mixing among young people aged 15 to 17.
The programme, run during the school holidays, is made up of a series of challenges where youngsters are encouraged to develop empathy, responsibility and understanding for themselves, each other and their communities.
Pixelwave Creative hosted a ‘Professional Visit’ for an NCS team to gain an insight into the world of work and how the skills they develop relate to their futures.
JP Woffenden, director at Pixelwave Creative, explains: “Providing opportunities for young people to experience a real working environment is something we readily support and have already developed links with Bury College to offer work experience and work placements for students.”
“Supporting the NCS professional visit is another exciting way for us to introduce Pixelwave Creative to young people of Bury, giving them an insight into the world of corporate video production and the work we produce on a daily basis.”
The following day, JP was invited to be a ‘Dragon’ for one of the NCS’s Dragons’ Den Pitches at Bury Masonic Hall where teams were given the chance to present their ideas for a social action project.
“Presenting to a room of people is never easy, especially if you don’t have previous experience of speaking in public, so I was very impressed at how well everyone did during their pitches and the amount of thought and planning that had gone into each of their social projects,” says JP.
“It’s refreshing to see young people so determined and keen to make a difference, not only for themselves but for their local community.”
