We’re looking forward to supporting Bury Hospice in its fundraising efforts once again after choosing the organisation as our charity of the year for the second year running.
Bury Hospice provides supportive palliative and end of life care, as well as useful information, to both patients and their families in the local community. This year, the Hospice celebrates its 30th anniversary.
As its motto is to ‘serve our community when they need us most’, we wanted to help the Hospice when it needs the support the most, too.
Throughout much of 2020, the Hospice has had to close its charity shops, which generate around 20 per cent of the income it needs each year to provide care and support.
Usually, the Hospice can also rely on more than 400 volunteers giving around 50,000 hours of their time. But, in September, the hospice revealed that only a fifth of its volunteer workforce returned when shops and other services were reopened.
Last year, our managing director JP Woffenden raised just under £1.6k for the Hospice by running 10km every week. We also donated our time and services to produce video content for the Hospice’s hugely popular Light Up a Life annual event – which year this took place online and had raised more than £18,900.

As well as supporting the Hospice by helping to raise awareness of its marvellous work, we’re also in the process of organising how we will support with its fundraising events once again.
JP says: “We are thrilled to help support Bury Hospice once again and the valuable work it does for our local community. Last year, I was personally delighted to raise £1580 for the Hospice through my running escapades and it was incredible to play an important role to make the Light up a Life event such a success.
“Although I’ve hung up my fundraising running shoes – for now – the Pixelwave Creative team has plenty of ideas to help support the Hospice once again as our official charity of the year for 2021.”
Rachel Wallace, head of marketing, communications and fundraising for Bury Hospice, says: “We are delighted to hear that Pixelwave Creative has chosen Bury Hospice as its charity of the year once again. JP and his team overcame every hurdle our Light up a Life project presented when Covid-19 hit; and amazingly turned the challenges of Covid into opportunities to reach out to an increased audience base.
“The product was an interactive film experience that translated into a 50 per cent increase on donations from the previous annual event and has been saluted by fellow hospices as a model of best practice.”
